Fabrication and Characterization of Mullite Reinforced MgO Added ZrO2 Ceramics

In this study, mullite (3Al2O3.2SiO2) and 10 mol % magnesia added zirconia (10 MgO - 90 ZrO2) ceramic powders were synthesized by conventional production processing route. The mixtures prepared mechanical alloying method in acetone environment with ball mill. dried oven at 110 ºC for 24 hours before mixing. Mullite mol% (MgO-ZrO2) reaction sintering from the made up of stoichiometric proportions Al2O3, SiO2, ZrO2 after being homogenized mills. air 1600 oC 3 h 1300 2 h, respectively. Then, phases formed ready to form composites crushing, grinding sieving processes. Then 0 10% weight (M) doped (MgZ) powder metallurgy method. wet milled mill sieved. After drying, compacted preforms 56x12x10 mm uniaxial pressing 200 MPa. green compacts sintered 1500-1600 1-5 conditions using a heating rate 5 min-1 high temperature furnace. microstructure (SEM), phase analysis (XRD), (hardness, 3-point bending wear) physical properties (% shrinkage, water absorption, porosity density) tests performed on composites. whether there is change mixture temperatures effect additive was investigated. data obtained presented graphs tables their comments made.
